CHURCH OF THE EVANGELISTRIA AT KASTRO

Unilateral Basilica, built in 1580 according to an embedded marble inscription. Served as the old Cathedral of the Middle Age capital of Cephalonia in the Municipality of "Kastro".
It has a wooden-carved iconostasis (templon) with superb portable icons. The old belfry is under restoration.

From St. Thomas Sunday to to the Sunday of Samaritida, the church is host to the miraculous icon of the Holy Virgin from the Monastery of Sissia. During this period prayers, divine services, revelries and holy sermons are held in honour of the Holy Virgin.
