CHURCH OF THEOTOKOS AT KALLIGATA

Built in the 18th century. It has a superb wood-carved iconostasis (templon) with icons of distinguished art.

The titular icon of the Holy Virgin is miraculous and its name is derived from the Calligarea gate in Constantinople where the original icon hung.

Its stone architectures with the beautiful architraves, the Byzantine eagle, its imposing bell tower, the wood-carved iconostasis dating back to 1804, underline the style of the artists who worked in the Church using stone and wood.
