The
Monastery of the Holy Virgin Paleohersou, built in 1600, is located
at a distance of two kilometers from the village of Defaranata.
The katholicon (main part of the church) is dedicated to the Holy
Virgin's Birth celebrated on the September 8th.The titular icon
of the Holy Virgin is called "Platytera of the Skies".
Funding for the restoration of the church and surrounding buildings
following the disastrous eatrhquake in 1953 was undertaken by two
clergymen of the Metropolis as well as the contributions of devout
parishioners of the neighbouring villages in the district of Erisos
and Pylaros.
