OLD AGE HOME

The Cephalonian Charities were established in 1887 and are managed by a Brotherhood headed by the Metropolitan of Cephalonia.

In 1965 the Cephalonian Charities founded the Argostoli Old Age Home which is administered according to Presidential Decree 1099/80 and all relevant statutes pertaining to the administration of Cephalonian Charities.

The purpose of the institution is to provide care for aged Cephalonians.
Its revenues are derived from:
a. Cephalonian Charities funding
b. fees from financially able boarders
c. Vallianeion Trust funding
d. Donations and bequests

One significant bequest is that of Spyridon Dimitsianos who on death bequested his house in Argostoli. The surrounding land was quite spacious which prompted the Brotherhood to develop it by erecting a building on it. Another significant bequest is that from the Ypatia Destouni Trust Fund which amounted to 30.000.000 drachmas plus an annual stipend of 1.000.000 drachmas.

The Brotherhood decided to develop the above mentioned building by constructing a number of shops to be rented. The revenues from renting out the shops would be used to improve the financial condition of the institution and to fulfill its goals.

Religious duties at the institutions are carried out by the Reverend Ioannis Mesoloras. The Metropolitan, Most Reverend Spyridon, as President of the institution, concerns himself with the well being of the boarders and readily provides solutions to any problems that arise at the institution.

The Church's concern for the aged is especially evident during the holidays when special events are scheduled in order to give a more festive tone and joy to the boarders who need to feel this extra care from the Church at this time.
